Samarcanda is CarbonZero with CO2balance Italia®
Samarcanda is the first Italian taxi company to be CarbonZero.
We’ve done something concrete to reduce our impact on the environment by neutralizing 20 percent of the carbon emissions produced by our vehicles in 2009.
The taxis in Samarcanda’s fleet (350 cabs) are in compliance with the European Union’s 20-20-20 plan to fight climate change by 2020: lower CO2 emissions produced in Europe by 20 percent, produce 20 percent of energy from renewable sources and increase energy efficiency by 20 percent.
Calculating the carbon footprint
Carbon emissions were calculated by CO2balance Italia® technicians to be 353 tons. Samarcanda, in order to neutralize this tonnage, selected the “Tinners Forest” reforestation project, which involves planting hardwood trees on lands previously used for agriculture and grazing in Cornwall, near Roche, in the United Kingdom.
Samarcanda will invest funds to create 8,140 square meters of forest.
Offsetting CO2 emissions
All CO2balance projects are supplementary; that is, there are made possible with voluntary funds invested by clients for the express purpose of efficiently, ethically and safely reducing CO2 emissions.
The trees of Tinners Forest are harvested and replaced in accordance with their life cycle. The wood that is produced is used for long-term projects only. In this way CO2balance planners ensure that the carbon in the wood will not be released.
